The Fire Company received a Federal Grant under the FY2009
Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, administered by the U.S. Department
of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency. This is the
fifth such grant received by the organization, and the federal share provides
90% of the funds for the project submitted in the grant proposal.
This grant provides $13,662 for the purchase of hydraulic rescue
tools totaling $15,180. Receipt of this award not only assists the fire
company in providing exceptional services to the community, but also reduces
the local tax burden on homeowners and businesses in the Township of West
Windsor since this equipment would normally be funded by the municipal Capital
Improvement Fund at taxpayer expense for both the total cost of the equipment
plus the added cost of debt service to retire the bonds issued for the
purchase.
The fire company continues to seek sources of funding, other
than local taxes, to improve services to the residents of West Windsor
Township. By
demonstrating financial need, the organization has been successful in being
awarded federal grants for equipment to be utilized in emergency response
activities in five of six attempts. |
